Rye Arts Club

Invitation for artist members:

Rye Arts Club has been reformed and is now inviting artists working across all media to apply for membership.

Rye Arts Club is an association aimed at promoting and encouraging the fine and decorative arts by affording local artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in appropriate and sympathetic surroundings.

Originally formed in the 1900s and based in Lamb House and Henry James’s studio in Watchbell Street, the club lapsed at the start of World War II.

Rye Arts Club is based at Swann Gallery in Mermaid Street, close to its original centre.

The area below the gallery has been allocated to the club, and members will be able to book the “Club Room” to exhibit their work for periods of up to 1 week.

There will be no charge for this service.

The club room will allow people to drop by, contemplate the exhibits, and have a glass of wine or a coffee against the backdrop of paintings, photographs, pots and sculptures. It will also provide an environment within which artists can exchange ideas and foster their creative energies.

Artistic membership is also open to both artists and performing artists, including writers and musicians.

It is hoped that in the future the venue will also be used for talks, demonstrations, musical evenings and other artistic endeavours.

Free membership for artists and Rye residents.
